Inspired by a visit in the 1950s, he purchased 20 acres of vacant land just beyond the medina, laying the foundation for what would become Es Saadi. The first addition was a casino, attracting dancers from Paris and weekend visitors. Following this success, the hotel was established, and in more recent times, the Palace and villas were added to the property.

The Bauchet family’s vision was to create a hotel that felt like a dreamlike home away from home, steering clear of the commercial atmosphere prevalent in many establishments. The design emphasized comfort, with the reception discreetly positioned to the side. The focal points included Arabic arches, lofty ceilings, a magnificent dome, and lavish fabrics, all contributing to the unique and inviting ambiance of Es Saadi.

Highlights at the 10 villas are accentuated by Murano glass lamps, ornate Libyan tables, Ivory chairs, heart-shaped swimming pools, and the discreet assistance of private butlers. Villa 1001 Nights stands out as the most opulent among them. Upon entry through a substantial mahogany door, the room is bathed in a beautiful golden light streaming from the central dome. Pure indulgence is embodied in luxurious fabrics, Moroccan antiques, a jacuzzi, and an extraordinary bed intricately inlaid with mother-of-pearl.

This lavish experience is further heightened when venturing out to the private pool, surrounded by beautiful trees and exotic plants. The allure of this corner of paradise becomes evident, explaining why the world’s biggest stars make a recurring pilgrimage to this haven year after year.

The resort boasts a total of 9 dining establishments spread across the Palace, Hotel, Casino, and within the gardens. Breaking away from the routine of tagines and grilled chicken skewers in the preceding days, I decided on the lobster club sandwich, featuring fresh lobster sourced from the coastal town of Oualadia—a place I vividly recall visiting a decade ago. As I savored my meal, I enjoyed the backdrop of a summery soundtrack filled with birdsong and the delightful sounds of hotel guests splashing in the pool, creating a remarkably peaceful atmosphere.
