Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron was established in 1979.

Formerly known as the Nautical College of Nigeria, this school provides the merchant Navy, the maritime industry and allied industries, qualitative education and training that accords with up-to-date technology, meets national and international standards and satisfies end-user expectations.

The Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron plays a pivotal role in offering Nigerian youths the opportunity to make informed career choices in a sector where manpower demand exceeds supply. Having recently attained university status, MAN Oron provides various courses at the ND (National Diploma) and HND (Higher National Diploma) levels. The courses are geared towards preparing students for careers in the maritime industry. Below are some of the courses offered:

ND Programme:

  1. Marine Meteorology and Oceanography
  2. Hydrography (2 years); Nautical Science (2 years)
  3. Boat and Ship Engineering Technology
  4. Maritime Transport and Business Studies
  5. Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  6. Marine Engineering

HND:

  1. Maritime Transport and Business Studies
  2. Naval Science (2 years); Nautical Science (2 years)
  3. Marine Engineering

JAMB Cut-off Marks :

  • School of Nautical Studies:
  • Nautical Science: Minimum of 175
  • School of Marine Engineering:
  • Marine Engineering: Minimum of 175
  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering: Minimum of 175
  • School of Maritime Studies:
  • Maritime Transport and Business Studies: Minimum of 160

Subject Combination for Some Programs:

  1. Boat and Ship Engineering Technology:
  • Five (5) credit passes at O/Level (WASC, GCE, NECO, or NABTEB) in not more than two (2) sittings.
  • Subjects include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and any other related Science subject.
  • Age requirement: Not more than 21 years old and not less than 16 years old at the time of admission. Candidates should remain single throughout the duration of the program.
  1. Marine Engineering Technology:
  • Similar entry requirements as Boat and Ship Engineering Technology.
  1. Maritime Transport and Business Studies:
  • Similar entry requirements with additional subjects: Economics and any other (Two) from Geography, Commerce, Government, Principles of Account, Business Management, etc.
  • Age requirement: Not more than 25 years old and not less than 16 years old at the time of admission. Candidates should remain single throughout the duration of the program.
  1. Nautical Science:
  • Similar entry requirements with additional subjects: Geography and any other related Science subject.
  • Age requirement: Not more than 21 years old and not less than 16 years old at the time of admission. Candidates should remain single throughout the duration of the program.

  • Basic Safety Training (Basic Fire Fighting, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility, Personal Survival Techniques, Elementary First Aid)
  • Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (other than Fast Rescue Boat)
  • Refresher Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (other than Fast Rescue Boat)
  • Security Awareness Training
  • Advanced Fire Fighting
  • Refresher Advanced Fire Fighting
  • Proficiency in Medical First Aid
  • Proficiency in Medical Care on board Ship
