Accra Technical University (ATU) has a rich history, initially established in 1949 as a Technical School in Ghana and later commissioned as Accra Technical Institute in 1957. In 2007, it transitioned into a Polytechnic and attained university status in 2016. Located in the capital city, Accra, the university is dedicated to providing technical and vocational education, emphasizing practical skills development across various disciplines.

Campus:
The campus is situated at Barnes Road, Accra.

Academics:
ATU comprises five faculties offering a diverse range of academic programs:

  1. Faculty of Engineering:
  • Department of Mechanical Engineering
  • Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering

  1. Faculty of Built Environment:
  • Department of Interior Design and Upholstery Technology
  • Department of Building Technology

HND Programmes:
With the elevation in status, ATU preserved its technician courses and introduced Higher National Diploma (HND) programs in various fields, including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Building Technology, Civil Engineering, Furniture Design and Production, Secretaryship and Management Studies, Bilingual Secretaryship and Management Studies, Accountancy, Marketing, Purchasing and Supply, Hotel Catering and Institutional Management, Fashion Design and Textiles, Mathematics and Statistics, Science Laboratory Technology, and Medical Laboratory Science. ATU continues to contribute significantly to the development of skilled professionals both locally and internationally.

ATU Undergraduate, Distance, Sandwich, Mature Admission Requirements

ATU General Admission Requirements:

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE Applicants:
  • Must have CREDITS in the THREE WASSCE/SSSCE Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science).
  • CREDITS in THREE WASSCE/SSSCE Elective Subjects or equivalent relevant to the chosen Programme with an aggregate of 24 or better (WASSCE: A1-C6/SSSCE A-D).
  1. General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) Applicants:
  • Applicants must have passes in THREE Compulsory Subjects, including English Language, and passes in THREE Elective Subjects, including Business Mathematics.
  1. GCE/IGCSE (CAMBRIDGE) ‘A’ & ‘O’ LEVELS/Mature Applicants:
  • Must have FIVE credits at the GCE/IGCSE Oʼ Level, including English Language and Mathematics (or approved equivalent).
  • Passes in at least THREE (3) subjects at the Advanced Level/Three Credits for mature applicants.
  • Additionally, the applicant must fulfill the appropriate Faculty or Departmental requirements.

ATU Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) Applicants:

  • Applicants must have passes in THREE Compulsory Subjects plus THREE (3) Optional Subjects relevant to the Programme of study.

ATU International Baccalaureate Holders:

  1. International Baccalaureate holders should have a minimum of grade 4 at the Higher Level (HL) in Three (3) Subjects relevant to the Programme of choice and a minimum of grade 5 in Chemistry for Health and Allied Sciences.
  2. For Engineering, at least grade 5 at the Higher level (HL) in Mathematics.
  3. In addition, one must have a minimum of grade 4 in English Language and Mathematics at the Standard Level (SL) and at least grade C in a Science subject at the IGCSE.
  4. Applicants from French-speaking Countries must provide a minimum of one-year English Proficiency Certificate.
